How To Get Cheap SR22 Insurance In Texas
Reader’s Question:
If they say that SR22 insurance is normally expensive, how can I ever get cheap SR22 insurance here in Texas?
Mary
Brownsville, TX
SR22 insurance is required among drivers who have been found guilty of violating major traffic rules such as driving under the influence (DUI) or driving without the required minimum car insurance coverage. SR22 insurance is demanded only from drivers who are considered as high risk. Since high risk drivers are required to carry it, SR22 insurance in Texas is normally expensive. But you can still get cheap SR22 insurance if you shop hard enough for firms offering a cheap policy.
Strictly speaking, SR22 insurance is a type of form issued by a car insurance provider to a state department of motor vehicles. This is to vouch that the person carrying it has the required minimum insurance coverage. SR22 insurance must be carried by the high risk driver for 3 years.
SR22 insurance is usually expensive; since it is given to high risk drivers, car insurance companies charge exorbitant rates to holders of SR22 insurance. Those who have SR22 insurance cannot afford to have lapses in their monthly payments because they run the risk of having their insurance policies cancelled. Likewise, not all car insurance companies issue SR22 insurance because of its high risk nature.
Shopping for SR22 insurance maybe difficult given the high prices of SR22 insurance but this does not mean that high risk drivers cannot find an affordable SR22 insurance. Shopping around is important if one is to get a cheap SR22 insurance. It also helps if the driver has a good credit history as car insurers prefer to issue cheap SR22 insurance to those who can settle their bills on time.
Cheap SR22 Insurance in Austin Texas
Reader’s Question:
My brother was caught driving without car insurance last week. From what I heard, he needs to get SR22 insurance. What is this SR22 insurance? I need help in getting SR22 insurance Austin for my brother. Where can I get it?
Nadine
Austin, TX
I’ve read very useful information about SR22 insurance Austin. According to the 1997 Financial Responsibility Programs and Procedures Guide made by the Insurance Industry Committee on Motor vehicle Administration, the SR22 insurance is needed for:
- Unsatisfied judgment
- Getting involved in an accident without car insurance
- Driving privileges suspension because of a serious conviction
I’ve read that the SR22 insurance Austin needs to be maintained for a period of two years. You may want to check this with the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles just to make sure.
You need to get SR22 insurance from a car insurance company that is licensed to do business in the state of Texas and can write SR22 policy. I’ve read somewhere that not all car insurance companies can write SR22 policy. But one thing that you need to remember is to make sure that your brother gets the car insurance coverage that meets the minimum required limits here in Texas. And also, make sure that there is no lapse or cancellation on his car insurance or else his license will be again suspended.
Since it appeared to me that you’re looking for SR22 insurance Austin, the good thing is that it’s available online. You can free online quotes for SR22 insurance to give you an idea on how much it cost. So go ahead and start your shopping around for SR22 insurance online quotes.
What Are The Car Insurance Requirements In Dallas?
Reader’s Question:
What are the requirements for car insurance in Dallas? Is it any different from what I have here in Oklahoma now? I will be moving there permanently in a month.
Karen
Dallas, TX
Karen, car insurance in Dallas includes liability insurance requirements of bodily injury and property damage liability. The maximum coverage per person in accident for bodily injury liability is $20,000 and with a maximum total coverage of $40,000. There is a $15,000 maximum for property damage. The same types of liability requirements you currently have in Oklahoma, except the amounts are going to be much higher. Ask your current provider if insurance could be carried over to Texas for a duration of time while you are in the process of settling down.
When you do make the move, I suggest that you transfer your car’s registration from Oklahoma to Texas as soon as you can. This would give you a smooth transition between states and thus, allow you to get coverage with in the State of Texas. If you live or usually commute to downtown Dallas I suggest that you get more than the required car insurance coverage. Dallas is different from where you are right now. The terrain is different. The traffic situation is more congested. The commute will be longer, so take the time to examine the options you have, if you haven’t done so already. Also check the coverage that you need to include in your car insurance in Dallas.
How To Get Low Rate Car Insurance Coverage in Texas
Reader’s Question:
Good day! I’m George from El Paso Texas. I ran into this website and I just found out that there are lots of policies and coverage that they are offering and man, most of them are expensive! I want to know which ones are the most important. I don’t want to waste money paying coverage that I really don’t need.
Jim
El Paso TX
Nowadays, almost everything in the auto industry is getting expensive. From auto parts to repair, you name it. Even auto insurance costs are increasing at a high rate. This is because of the numbers of traffic accidents are arising. Now, to answer your question, I will explain the most common coverage people are applying when it comes to auto insurance.
In most states, it is required to acquire the so called liability coverage. This liability is categorized into three. The Bodily Injury Liability which pays claims made against you incase you hurt or kill someone. Coverage is limited up to your relatives living with you and it also pays your legal fees if you get sued. Second is the Property Damage Liability, what it does is pay for claims made against you in case you have an accident with another car or object. Last is the Personal Injury Protection, insurance company pays your medical expense if you’re in another vehicle or just walking.
Then there are other coverage that is not required by most states but it is important to acquire. The Collision Coverage, it pays for damage done to your car caused by another vehicle no matter whose fault is it. Even damage from an object is covered by these coverage. Next is the Comprehensive Coverage which pays for damage done to your vehicle from acts of nature, vandalism and theft. Last is the Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage, it pays for damages done to you and your passengers in case it is the fault of an uninsured or underinsured owner. Hit and run cases are also covered by this coverage.
Now, after you decide which coverage you want. Visit your auto insurance website and acquire quotes from them. Most of them (or almost all) are free. Compare their rates and coverage and choose the one that you can afford. Sometimes they have an online chat or they have telephone customer service in case you run through a difficult query.
How Do You Buy SR 22 Car Insurance?
Reader question:
So, how do you buy SR 22 car insurance?
Mytai
Thank you for asking, Mytai.
You buy SR 22 car insurance in much the same way that you buy any other type of car insurance coverage. The only difference here is that it is much more difficult to get good rates on SR 22 car insurance than on other types because you start at a higher rate, and it is also harder to find a car insurance company that provides SR 22 car insurance coverage.
First, you need to determine the kind of coverage that you will need. As the holder of SR 22 car insurance, you will want to make this as little an amount as possible. You will probably be extra careful because of the SR 22, so you shouldn’t have to worry about collision coverage. Just go with the state required minimum. Make sure you get a decent amount of coverage in the liability area.
If you are unable to find a company that will issue you SR22 car insurance coverage, then you can join the state’s assigned risk insurance pool. This pool allows you to get car insurance coverage with all of the usual companies even if they had denied you before, but it requires you to pay very high premiums, which will make having SR 22 car insurance even worse. If it is avoidable at all, then avoid it.

What Is The SR22 Filing Period
Reader question:
How long do I have to have SR22 filing for?
Leah
Thank you for asking, Leah.
The answer to your question depends on which state you are coming from. While most states have very similar laws concerning the SR22 filing period, some differ from others. For example, in Texas the period of SR22 filing is only two years, whereas in most other states that period is longer, around three to five years for a drunk driving or speeding offense.
The amount of time that you have to do SR22 filing also depends a lot on how many times you have committed the offense. If you commit it a second time, then you are going to get much harsher punishments than you would have if you had only done it once. Normally, committing the offense for a second time extends the period of SR22 filing by a couple of years, and then for a third time it doubles that new one. Every time it happens you have to do SR22 filing for longer, until you are no longer able to have a license at all.
One thing that I should mention is that the period during which your license is suspended counts towards the amount of time that you have to have SR22 car insurance coverage. So if your license is suspended for three months, once you get it reinstated, you will only have to pay for SR22 filing for your car insurance coverage for a year and nine months in th state of Texas.

San Antonio SR22 Car Insurance – Great Free Rate Quotes
Reader question:
I need San Antonio SR22 car insurance and I don’t even have a car! What gives? I thought car insurance was attached to the car?
Gloria
Normally, it is.
When you have a regular insurance policy, your car insurance coverage goes with the car that you have listed on the policy. Most of the time, it does not touch any other car that you drive that is not listed on the policy, although there are instances in which your car insurance covers you regardless of which car you drive (such as rental car insurance coverage). This is the reason that, if you have car insurance for your car, you can allow other people to drive it even if they are not listed names on your car insurance policy, because they will still be covered by your own car insurance since the policy goes with the car. However, this rule does not always apply, especially when it comes to proof of insurance filing like the SR22 form.
San Antonio car insurance law requires you to file an SR22 form whether you have your own vehicle or not, so long as you have your driver’s license reinstated. For one thing, SR22 insurance puts you in a higher risk category which means you will have to pay higher rates for car insurance, which would not apply if you used your friend’s car with her car insurance policy at normal rates. It doesn’t make sense for a high risk driver to be using a low risk driver’s policy.
Another thing is that the SR22 car insurance is required to make sure that you have insurance coverage. The Texas department of public safety cannot track whichever friend’s car you might be driving, and cannot require that friend or relative to file any kind of SR22 form since you are driving their car. Therefore, if you want to have your license, then the responsibility lays on you, car or no car.

What Is The Proper Way To Process a Texas SR22 Filing?
A couple of years ago, soon after I got my license, I got pulled over twice within two months for driving without insurance and was ticketed both times. I ended up missing both court dates, and going in a few months later to post bond and set up a payment plan. Of course, in Texas you can’t do this, because of the point system where you’ll automatically have points added if you pay on a plan for things like lack of insurance. So, instead, I rescheduled my court date. I was told by the girl behind the glass window that I was on what was called ‘probation’, and was required to have car insurance without any lapses through the date of my court appearance, and be able to prove it.
I guess I wasn’t listening too hard. What I was supposed to do was get an SR 1 insurance form filed by my auto insurance company so that the department of motor vehicles would have continuous proof of my car insurance coverage. I didn’t do that, because I had no idea that I was supposed to. I did keep my auto insurance coverage going for the whole time, but when I got to court and didn’t have an SR 1 to show for the time, the judge was not impressed.
The reason why I am mentioning this under an SR 22 topic is because I think it is important for those doing Texas SR 22 filing to realize that there is a difference between having an SR 22 form and having three years of insurance cards. One the judge will accept as proper proof, and the other just doesn’t work.
It’s a funny system, considering that both methods prove the same point–that you had car insurance coverage during the time of punishment after your Texas DUI conviction. However, what the SR 22 accomplishes that the regular insurance card doesn’t is that it keeps the department of motor vehicles constantly informed of your insurance status. On the other hand, just the insurance card can only provide proof of this after your period is over. That’s the emphasis that I want to put behind proper Texas SR 22 filing–it has to be done because it is the only approved method. You can’t just prove financial responsibility any which way.
Cheers,
Fashun Guadarrama.
