How Much Is SR22 Car Insurance For A New Car?

For the next two to five years, you are going to be paying higher rates for SR-22 car insurance, so it wouldn’t be completely out of order for you to take some big measures to get better prices. One thing that you can do, especially if you are in the market for a new vehicle, is to make sure that this vehicle is one that will get you low SR-22 car insurance prices. Anytime you go shopping for a car you should check quotes from online quote sites first and see how much each car of your choice would cost you from various car insurance companies. You might find that it would be more wise to make a different choice of car, or that it would be good to change car insurance companies to get lower SR-22 car insurance rates.

The two features that are the main ones when it comes to figuring out how big a factor for better or for worse your vehicle type will have in your car insurance premium are

  • age, and
  • safety

Newer cars cost more to insure, and older cars have a lot of problems, so it is best to get a car that is not new, but is no more than a decade old for best results. You should also make sure that the vehicle that you purchase has up to date safety features, and has extra air bags installed.

SR 22 car insurance rates are usually high, but there are several ways that you can get those rates down a bit, and possibly even get rid of the need for SR 22 car insurance, period. The way to do this is to take a defensive driving class. It’s often the case that you can get certain charges such as speeding or DUI dropped if you take a defensive driving class. This does not always work, but it is an option.

Even if you can’t get the need to have SR 22 car insurance dropped, defensive driving classes can still get you better SR 22 car insurance rates. Most car insurance companies offer a rate discount for people who take driving classes, sometimes for as much as ten percent.

These types of classes are available everywhere. For seniors, they can be gotten cheaply from the AARP. There is a traveling defensive driving course geared towards teenagers that is led by a race car driver. Defensive driving courses are given at community colleges and high schools, and you can get a course on DVD from your local video rental shop.

Getting SR22 Car Insurance With Bad Credit

As this video states, while having bad credit doesn’t exactly ruin your chances of getting cheap SR 22 car insurance, it does make it more unlikely. There are several factors that factor into the car insurance premium that you pay in the end, such as your driving record and your age and the type of car your drive, but over the past few years, your credit report has been playing a bigger and bigger role. The car insurance score that is seen from your credit report is gotten in a different way from your credit score, in that paying on time is emphasized more than not having maxed out credit cards and not having a long credit history.

There is some debate as to whether or not using the credit report to determine how much to charge someone for their SR 22 car insurance premium is ethical, but so far the car insurance companies are winning out. According to statistics, they say, people with bad credit tend to get into more collisions and file more claims than people who have good credit. Because of this, those with bad credit belong to a higher risk group.

For many people, finding this out is just a ‘the more you know’ sort of thing, because there isn’t much that they can do about their credit, at least in the short run. However, if your credit report is getting in the way of you getting reasonable car insurance rates on your Dallas SR 22 car insurance, then it makes sense to order your reports from each credit union and make sure that everything on there has a reason to be there and try to start working on diminishing your debt.

Cheap SR22 Car Insurance For Students

Reader question:

I’m a student and I got convicted for a DUI. Now that I have my license back, I’m supposed to file Texas SR-22 car insurance for two years. I hear it’s really expensive. Is there any way that I can get it to be cheaper?

George

Thank you for your question, George.

When you’re young, car insurance costs are often very high, especially while you are a college student and it is harder than usual to afford the Texas SR-22 car insurance rates. These high premiums might have you eating ramen more often than usual if you don’t step up and do everything that you can to get them to be lower. Lucky for you, being in Texas you only have to file SR-22 car insurance for two years, whereas in most places it’s between three and five years.

Over the next two years, though, I would pay close attention to my grades if I were you. The reason I say this is because the greatest car insurance discount you can get as a student is the good student discount, which most companies offer and which awards students who have a B average or above or a 3.5 GPA or above with a car insurance discount. I applied this to my own car insurance premium and receive fifteen percent off. When you are paying so much for Texas Sr-22 car insurance, such a discount can save a lot.

Is It Cheaper to File SR22 as Married Person?

Reader question:

Is it cheaper to do SR22 filing when you’re married?

Ramone

Thanks for asking.

That all depends on who you are married to. It is usually the case that married couples pay less for car insurance than do non married couples, and this is also true when SR22 filing is involved. The main reason for this is that being married is seen as being responsible and married people file fewer claims than unmarried people, so car insurance companies charge them less. It also tends to be because when you get married, you join together your car insurance policy, and so you go from a one name one car policy to a multiple policy, which tend to cost less. In a marriage, the person that usually benefits the most from lower car insurance rates is the male, because guys tend to pay more for their car insurance, an amount which is tempered when married.

However, this does not always apply. It is much the same when you have great credit and you marry someone with terrible credit, and then you try to apply for a house together. You might have less luck than if you had applied alone. It goes the same way if you marry and join car insurance policies with someone who has a very bad driving record. If your spouse has a good driving record, then you might benefit from that some by having to pay less for your SR22 filing. However, if your spouse has a bad driving record, then it will just cost more.

I Was Arrested For Drunk Driving Now Need To File For SR22 Insurance?

Reader question:

A couple of days, I got arrested for drunk driving and now I have to file an SR 22 form. What is it? Thing is, I’m going to be getting a new car. Will I have trouble getting it financed because of my SR 22 insurance requirement?

Becca

You shouldn’t.

The SR 22 auto insurance form doesn’t do much at all to hurt you except that it makes your car insurance rates go up, except for in special circumstances when your car insurance company allows you forgiveness for your very first drunk driving offense. It is, essentially, a form that the company must file so that the state has proof that you are covered by an auto insurance policy. In most states, you are required to have an auto insurance policy anyway, but the SR 22 helps these states keep track of you in this special case so that if you cancel your auto insurance, the department of public safety is notified so that your license may be suspended.

A new car can easily be financed while you are using SR 22 auto insurance, because the only thing that the financer looks at is whether or not you have the right kind of coverage. All they want to know is that, if you get into a car accident and have to make a car insurance claim, they will still get their paycheck for the amount of the loan. I do think I should call into question how wise it would be to finance a new car while you have SR 22 auto insurance, just considering what the rates would be. Already, SR 22 auto insurance rates are much higher than usual, as are those for new car insurance. Putting the two together might be a hard hit on your budget.
